Boiling Water Taps: How We Compare to Quooker

a gold boiling water tap with pull out hose

If you have been shopping for an instant boiling water tap, chances are you have come across Quooker. The Dutch brand has become almost synonymous with the category, much like how people say "Hoover" when they mean vacuum cleaner. But Quooker is far from the only option out there, and for plenty of households, it may not be the most practical one either.

We thought it was worth laying out an honest comparison between what we offer here at Hot Water Taps Ireland and what you get with Quooker, across price, functionality, ownership, and everyday value. No spin, just the facts.

A quick look at both brands

Quooker is a Dutch company founded in 1987 by Henri and Niels Peteri. It now operates across 17 countries, employs over 450 people, and produces around 300,000 systems a year from its factory in Ridderkerk, the Netherlands. Fair play to them. They genuinely pioneered the boiling water tap and helped make it a kitchen staple across Europe.

We are a family-run company based in Kilcormac, Co. Offaly. We sell directly to you, offer free 48-hour delivery nationwide, and handle all customer support locally. Our range covers everything from entry-level 3-in-1 boiling water taps right through to advanced 4-in-1 models with chilled and filtered water.

Price: let's talk numbers

This is where the gap becomes hard to ignore.

Quooker taps typically start at around €1,410 for a basic model and can reach €2,090 or more before you add extras like the CUBE chiller unit for sparkling and chilled water. Once you factor in installation and accessories, a full Quooker system can comfortably push past €2,000.

Our pricing looks quite different. The Revista 3-in-1 starts at just €555, the Aureum 3-in-1 comes in at €739, and our popular Quanta 4-in-1 with filtered cold water is €849. Even our premium Platina 4-in-1 pull-out tap, which gives you boiling, hot, cold, and filtered water along with a flexible pull-out hose, is €910.

To put that in real terms: you could buy our Platina 4-in-1 pull-out and still have €500 or more left over compared to a base-level Quooker Fusion. Both deliver instant boiling water, both have child-safety mechanisms, and both sit neatly under your kitchen sink.

That is a significant saving for any household, whether you are renovating the whole kitchen or just upgrading the tap.

What about ongoing costs?

Both brands require filter replacements to maintain performance and keep your warranty valid. Our filters cost €49.96 on a rolling subscription (we dispatch your replacement every six months automatically) or €58.29 for a one-off purchase. Quooker's HiTAC filter needs replacing less frequently, typically every five years, but the unit cost is higher.

For daily running costs, both systems use insulated tanks that keep water at temperature with minimal energy. Quooker quotes around 3 pence per day in standby, and our figures are similar. Neither will cause any drama on your electricity bill, and both are comparable to (or more efficient than) boiling the kettle multiple times a day. If you are a four-cups-before-lunch household, you will barely notice the difference.

Functionality: what do you actually get?

Both brands deliver the core appeal of instant boiling water. The difference is how each range is structured.

We break things down simply. A 3-in-1 tap gives you standard hot and cold water plus filtered boiling water. A 4-in-1 tap adds filtered cold water into the mix, which is brilliant for drinking water without the taste of chlorine. Our Quanta Chilled models go further again, dispensing water chilled to 4°C alongside boiling, hot, and cold. And if you want a pull-out hose for rinsing veg, filling big pots, or getting into the corners of the sink, the Astrum 3-in-1 pull-out rangeand the Platina 4-in-1 pull-out both offer that.

Quooker's equivalent range includes the Fusion (their all-in-one mixer), the Flex (with pull-out hose), and the Nordic Single and Twin taps. To get chilled and sparkling water, you need to add the Quooker CUBE, which is a separate under-counter unit at additional cost.

In practical, everyday terms, the functionality is comparable. The key difference is that we bundle more features into the box at a lower price, while Quooker tends to charge separately for add-ons.

Local company vs. international corporation

This is not about one approach being better than the other. Quooker is a well-run family business, even if it operates on a global scale. But there are real, practical advantages to buying from a local company.

When you ring our support line, you are speaking to someone who understands local kitchens, local water pressure, and local plumbing quirks. We offer free delivery, Klarna interest-free payment options, and a 5-year warranty on our taps with a 2-year warranty on the boiler unit. And we are genuinely here if something goes wrong, not routing your call through a European head office.

For anyone who prefers supporting homegrown businesses and dealing directly with the people who stand behind the product, that counts for something.

Who is each brand best for?

Quooker makes sense if you are set on the brand name, if sparkling water from the CUBE is a must-have, or if your kitchen designer has specified it as part of a premium fit-out. It is a proven product with decades of engineering behind it, and we would not pretend otherwise.

Hot Water Taps Ireland makes sense if you want the same core functionality at a significantly lower price, if you value local support, or if you want a wider choice of finishes and configurations without paying a premium. Our range includes chrome, brushed nickel, brushed gold, copper, gunmetal, and matt black across most models, so you are not limited to a couple of options.

The bottom line

Boiling water taps have moved well beyond the luxury category. For plenty of homes, they are becoming a proper kitchen staple, replacing the kettle and making the morning routine that bit smoother. The question is not really whether to get one, but which one gives you the best value for your needs.

Quooker built the category and remains a strong product. But paying upwards of €1,400 for an instant boiling water tap when you can get comparable quality starting from €555 is a big ask, particularly when the more affordable option comes from a local, family-run company with free delivery and solid warranty cover.

If you are weighing up your options, have a look through our full range and compare the specs side by side. You might find the tap you want costs a lot less than you expected.
