How to Change the Filter on Your Boiling Water Tap

Your instant hot water tap does a lot of heavy lifting in the kitchen, so it’s only fair to give it a bit of upkeep now and again. One of the easiest—and most important—ways to keep it running smoothly is by replacing the filter. This not only helps maintain great-tasting water, but also protects your system from scale and other unwanted build-up.

Filters: What They Do and Why They Matter

Every tap in our range comes with a carbon and anti-scale filter (WF100), designed to reduce minerals from your mains water and shield the internal parts of your tap from limescale damage.

The type of filters your tap uses depends on whether it’s a 3-in-1 or a 4-in-1 model:

  • 3-in-1 taps, like the Helena or Astrum, use the WF100 to filter the boiling water.
  • 4-in-1 taps, such as the Quanta, Quanta Chilled, or Platina, use both the WF100 and an additional anti-bacterial filter (WF200) to purify cold filtered water too.

The anti-scale filter keeps your tap’s boiling function in good shape, while the blue anti-bacterial filter (exclusive to 4-in-1 models) ensures that your cold filtered water stays clean and free from common contaminants.

Step-by-Step: How to Replace the Filter

Replacing either filter is straightforward—no plumber needed. Here's what to do:

  1. Turn off the isolation valve beneath the sink.
  2. Switch off the boiling water tank at the power source.
  3. Unscrew the filter cartridge with a gentle quarter turn. Give the housing a twist to remove the used filter inside. (Tip: do this over the sink—there may be water left inside.)
  4. Unwrap your new carbon filter and slide it into the housing with the opening facing up.
  5. Secure the cartridge back into place with another quarter turn until it clicks.
  6. Turn the isolation valve back on, followed by the boiling tank.
  7. Run the tap and check for leaks. If needed, tighten the connection slightly.

And that’s it—your system’s now ready to deliver fresh filtered water again. Take a look at this handy How to video for more guidance.

When Should You Replace It?

We recommend changing your boiling water tap filter every six months. If you live in a hard water area or use the tap frequently, you might need to replace it a little sooner. Look out for changes in water taste, slower flow, or system alerts as signs it's time for a swap.

What’s the Cost?

Our filters are priced from €35.95, with a convenient subscription option that delivers a new one every six months for €45.95. It’s a small price to pay for keeping your tap working like new and your water tasting fresh.

Why Regular Filter Changes Matter

A clogged or expired filter doesn’t just affect taste—it can also shorten the life of your tap’s boiler tank. Regular hot water tap filter replacement helps prevent scale build-up, protects internal components, and ensures consistent performance.

Skipping filter changes could even void your tap’s warranty, so it’s worth setting a reminder.

Is Filtered Water Worth It?

Even though tap water is perfectly safe to drink, filtered water tends to taste noticeably better. With fewer minerals and impurities, it’s clearer, cleaner, and ideal for everything from cooking to your morning cuppa.

Quanta Chilled offers chilled filtered water, while Platina offers filtered cold water at mains temperature—perfect if you’re a fan of pure, refreshing hydration straight from the tap.
